As I already said that male guinea pigs can retract their testicles, and because of which their testicles look like the female genitals. Not only this, most of the time genital area of the female guinea pigs remains swell. Due to this their genital area can look like male testicles.

So how we can determine their gender? However, for this, you have to use your hands as you cannot know the correct gender visually.

The first method that you can use to know the gender is to looking their genital area. As female guinea pigs have a flat genital area than male guinea pigs. And also their genital area has a “Y” shape, but the males’ genital areas are “I” shaped.

But if you are still unable to find their gender then slightly press their genital area with your hands. And if you feel any sort of protruding then it is male and if there is no protruding then it is female. As the female genital areas are flat than the male that’s why you wouldn’t feel any protruding if it is a female.

And in male guinea pigs case, even if they retract their testicles but still you will feel the protruding after pressing their genital area.

However, this is the best possible way to know the gender of your guinea pig. But if you are still confused about their gender then ask for help from their vet. As an expert veterinarian can tell you the correct gender of your pet guinea pig.
